Biden spokeswoman says that President Biden does not plan to visit the site of the deadly condo collapse in Surfside, FL. Today, Jen Psaki announced that the President will remain in D.C. while there are still more than 150 Americans that are unaccounted for in the rubble.
Politico reports:
“In terms of a visit by the president, we always want to ensure that we’re not pulling from local resources. We don’t want to draw resources that are needed in the ongoing search and rescue operations,” Pskai said. “We will remain in close contact with officials on the ground.”
FEMA Director Deanne Criswell has been in contact with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and briefed Biden, Psaki said. FEMA deployed a management assistance team, building experts and engineers in addition to two search and rescue teams.
Psaki said the federal personnel in Florida from FEMA, the FBI, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the National Institutes of Standards and Practices have their own authorities and expertise to investigate the causes of the collapse and prevent it from happening again.
Biden has said he supports a federal investigation into what led to the tragic collapse.
