On Monday, Senator Dianne Feinstein announced her husband Richard Blum, had passed away.

The Washington Examiner reports:

The California senator said Blum died at their family home after “a long battle with cancer,” according to a statement obtained by the San Francisco Chronicle. He was 86.

“My heart is broken today. My husband was my partner and best friend for more than 40 years. He was by my side for the good times and for the challenges. I am going to miss him terribly,” Feinstein wrote.

Blum was the chairman of an equity investment management firm, Blum Capital Partners, and a member of the University of California Board of Regents. He was also the founder of the American Himalayan Foundation, which aids communities in the Himalayan region with education, healthcare, and more.

“His compassion and devotion to the people of the Himalayan region may prove to be his most enduring legacy,” Feinstein wrote. “We have a hole in our hearts that will never be filled. Dick, we love you.”
