Over the weekend top GOP leaders and 2024 potential presidential contenders met for the first major party gathering of the cycle at the Republican Jewish Coalition in Las Vegas. During the event, the prospects who took the stage pitched ideas for the nation and the party, though their primary messages hit at defeating Trump. While this could mean competition for Trump, it may also re-create the conditions Trump was thrown into when he found success in the 2016 elections. A crowded Republican field allowed Trump to take the party’s nomination despite winning only 35% of votes in the first three primary elections. While it is just the beginning of the 2024 season, there is an odd similarity to the 2016 elections, one that Trump is potentially very happy to see.
