Honey Mahogany, the chair of the San Francisco Democratic Party, will serve as the first headmistress of the “Stud School of Drag” that is set to open in 2024, The San Francisco Chronicle reported.
The school — which will be co-hosted by local art center, CounterPulse, and San Francisco’s oldest drag bar, the Stud — will present weekly classes for attendees over 21 that will include makeup tips, lip-sync strategies and “character building,” according to the Chronicle. Students will also learn about the “ancient and modern histories” of drag and promoting drag through marketing, NBC News Bay Area reported.
“There is a lot that goes into drag,” Mahogany told NBC. “I mean, I know we make it look easy. But it’s not. You know, everything from painting your face, putting on makeup and transforming yourself into a character or persona.”
The drag school will reportedly be the first in San Francisco and the only currently operational school of drag in the nation, the Chronicle reported. Mahogany, who first gained notoriety on the fifth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, hailed the school as a chance to “honor San Francisco’s drag legacy,” according to NBC.
The school does not have a definitive opening date but will most likely welcome wannabe drag queens in early 2024 after the Stud Bar reopens, the Chronicle noted.
The Stud Bar, Mahogany and CounterPulse did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
