CNN host Jake Tapper accused White House aide Stephen Miller of “demonizing” the federal workforce Tuesday after Miller described federal employees as “far left.”
Dozens of senior officials at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) were placed on leave after allegedly resisting a freeze on certain grants, according to Fox News, while a dozen prosecutors who worked for former special counsel Jack Smith in investigations targeting President Donald Trump were terminated. Miller told CNN host Jack Tapper during an appearance on “The Lead” that many bureaucrats were “far left.”
“There’s two million employees in the federal government,” Miller said. “Overwhelmingly, the career federal service in this country is far left, left-wing. The American people voted-”

“I don’t know that to be a fact,” Tapper said, cutting Miller off, prompting the Trump administration official to say, “I’ll give you a great example. We looked at USAID as an example. 98%, 98% of the workforce donated to either Kamala Harris or another left-wing candidate, just as an example.”
Trump lost the District of Columbia, where USAID’s headquarters is located, in all three of his presidential elections, receiving no more than 6.5% of the vote, according to 270toWin.com.
“Okay, but you’re demonizing an entire workforce!” Tapper responded, with Miller responding, “Wait! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Did you just say that saying someone voted for Kamala Harris is demonizing them?”
“No… your suggestion is that there is a bias-” Tapper said before Miller interjected, saying, “But you used the word demonizing, you said that I’m demonizing somebody by saying they voted for Kamala Harris.”
During Trump’s first term, career federal employees in multiple agencies tried to undermine his policies.
“I am on track, let me stay on track,” Miller said. “What I’m saying to you is this: There are two million employees in the federal government. They’re overwhelmingly left-of-center. The American people – I’ve got to finish this sentence, I’ve got to finish this sentence – the American people voted for dramatic change implemented by Donald Trump.”
