Dem Rep Flips Out When GOP Chairman Refers To Trans Female Member As ‘Mister’

Democratic Massachusetts Rep. Bill Keating lashed out at Republican Texas Rep. Keith Self for referring to transgender Democratic Delaware Rep. Sarah McBride as “mister” during a hearing in a video circulating on X on Tuesday.

McBride is a biological male but identifies as a female and became the first transgender member of Congress in 2024. When Self called the Delaware representative “Mister McBride,” McBride responded by calling him “Madam Chair” before Keating jumped in. (RELATED: ‘You’re Crazy’: Nancy Mace Spars With ABC Reporter Pressing Her On Banning ‘A Penis’ From Women’s Bathrooms)

“Mr. Chairman, could you repeat your introduction again, please?” Keating asked.

Self started to say that there is an established “standard on the floor of the House” before Keating interrupted to ask what the “standard” is and again requested that Self “repeat” the introduction he delivered for McBride.

Self obliged.

“I will. The representative from Delaware, Mr. McBride,” Self said.

“Mr. Chairman, you are out of order. Mr. Chairman, have you no decency? I mean, I have come to know you a little bit, but this is not decent,” Keating said.

Self said he would “continue” the hearing, but Keating objected.

“You will not continue it with me unless you introduce a duly elected representative the right way,” Keating said.

Self then ended the hearing.

Republican South Carolina Rep. Nancy Mace introduced a resolution in November to ban biological men from using women’s restrooms in the Capitol complex in response to McBride’s election. McBride complied with House Republicans’ demands to not use women’s bathrooms and facilities after Speaker Mike Johnson ordered that “all single-sex facilities” in the Capitol and House office buildings are to be “reserved for individuals of that biological sex.”

“I’m not here to fight about bathrooms. I’m here to fight for Delawareans and to bring down costs facing families,” McBride said in a statement. “Like all members, I will follow the rules as outlined by Speaker Johnson, even if I disagree with them.”
