Mario Cuomo was a well respected liberal governor of New York. He was an intellectual heavyweight and a frequent sparring partner of Reagan era Republicans.
In the case of his sons, the apple fell very far from the tree.
First there’s Andrew, the liberal governor of New York who’s trying to bankrupt that state and chase any respectable moderate out of it.
Then there’s Chris. Chris makes Andrew look like Albert Einstein. Chris works for CNN, where he frequently lets his bias show. This week, Chris said something absolutely insane:
CNN anchor Chris Cuomo said Thursday that the label “fake news” has become the equivalent of an ethnic slur for journalists.
“I see being called ‘fake news’ as the equivalent of the N-word for journalists,” he said on Sirius XM’s “POTUS.”
“[It’s] the equivalent of calling an Italian any of the ugly words that people have for that ethnicity. That’s what fake news is to a journalist,” he added.
“It is an ugly insult, and you had better be right if you’re going to charge a journalist with lying on purpose,” he continued. “The president was not right here and he’s not been right in the past.”
Liberals often tell conservatives, or anyone who disagrees with them, to “check their privilege.” Let’s check Cuomo’s. He’s on television because of who his father and brother are. He’s never wanted a day in his life. He will always have a job, and he’ll always be well fed. Yet here he is, claiming that the Trump administration holding him accountable for bad journalism is just the same as a racist screaming the N-word at him, or calling him a “wop.”
Cuomo should grow up. The people who regularly heard such insults when that sort of thing was common didn’t let it get in their way. Cuomo’s ancestors faced an America that was suspicious of Italians and persevered. Jackie Robinson became a baseball Hall of Famer by ignoring those bigots who were desperate to see him fail, and freedom marchers stood for what they believed in despite police violence and a climate of hate. If this clown thinks being called out for shitty journalism is on par with that, he’s out of his mind.
