Romney failed the GOP when he gave up in the 2012 election, at the time Obama had been burdened by scandal and was becoming more unpopular as the days went by. Romney had the opportunity to hammer Obama over his scandals but declined and refused to stand up for himself when he was falsely accused of running a scandalous campaign. It was not as if Romney was unable to do this, he proved to be a very talented speaker in the first Presidential debate, Romney simply declined to try his best in the 2012 election.

No one could blame John McCain when he lost the 2008 election, Obama was a new force and proved himself to be one of the most articulate politicians to enter the field. While John McCain had a solid history the 2008 Obama was a force to be reckoned with. Romney faced an Obama that could have been easily defeated, he just didn’t seem to care about winning.
