The last thing that happens in the impeachment process is the removal of the President. If the Senate votes to convict the President then he will be removed from the White House and he will no longer be the President. After this, the Vice President becomes the new President and the DOJ has the option to charge the former President with a crime if one has been committed and the DOJ finds it worthy of a criminal trial.
