I’ve been thinking lately about the moment on election night, 2016 when Megyn Kelly announced, “Fox News is projecting that Donald Trump has won the state of Wisconsin.  And there goes her blue wall.” It was 11:30 p.m. My son, then 14 years old, looked over at me and asked, “Dad, you look like you’re about to cry.”

I wiped my eyes.  “Yeah,” I said.

“Why?” he asked.

“Because you just saw the country saved,” I said. “And I hope you remember this moment the rest of your life.  I know I will.”

Very few people—least of all journalists—predicted Donald Trump would become President.  More importantly, no one, I bet, predicted that the man to save the country (when the country really needed saving) would turn out to be a shoot-from-the-hip, Big Mac-loving, sometimes less-than-eloquent New York mogul and reality TV star.  But we learned again on election night—as we had learned from the story of another imperfect man named Moses—that God uses everyone.

If Donald Trump had not won the Presidency of the United States, I firmly believe that the United States would have, in fundamental ways, ceased to exist.  I believe free speech would have been far more dramatically curtailed than it has been. I believe the Second Amendment would have been thrown on the trash heap.  I believe that our key ally Israel would have been abandoned. I believe that freedom of religion would have been decimated.

During the election and thereafter, I took a lot of heat for writing opinion pieces that defended Donald Trump’s sanity and his intelligence.  It remains profoundly sad to me that I needed to do so. It escaped me how anyone could fail to see that a man who had become a billionaire, a television star and President of the United States had to be not only stable but something of a genius.

In the aftermath of Trump’s election, I was attacked viciously not only in the liberal media but also by a small number of my psychiatric patients who (no coincidence, if you ask me) filed outrageous legal claims.

I literally used the example of Donald J. Trump to weather the storm.  If Trump could keep going despite attempts by the FBI and CIA to destroy him, I told myself, then I could certainly keep going despite the adversity I was encountering.

That’s when I decided to study and share the secrets of Trump’s success with the public.  I teamed up with the brilliant PR guru and political consultant Christian Josi to write the book Trump Your Life: 25 Life Lessons from the Ups and Downs of the 45th President of the United States.  Roger Stone, the legendary political advisor, agreed to contribute the foreword.  Morgan James Publishing immediately accepted the book for publication. And we just launched a Kickstarter campaign to offer advance hardcover and signed hardcover copies, which won’t hit bookstores until several months from now.

This Administration represents one of the greatest opportunities for training in personal empowerment, ever.  I take it as a privilege, despite any of the risks, to be able to provide the guidebook to that training.
