Trump Administration Diverting Funds to the Border From Other Agencies

The Trump administration is reportedly diverting funds from FEMA and a host of other agencies to be diverted to the border.

The diverted funds will be used to build detention facilities and hearing centers for asylum seekers.

According to The Hill:

The Trump administration is reportedly diverting millions of dollars from other agencies to be used for immigrant detention facilities and hearing locations for asylum-seekers who have been forced to wait in Mexico.

NBC News reported that $271 million is being taken from Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agencies, including from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Disaster Relief Fund, citing department officials and a letter sent by Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-Calif.).

Immigration and Customs Enforcement would receive $155 million from the FEMA relief fund, Roybal-Allard wrote in the letter, which was reviewed by the news outlet.

A total of $116 million previously marked for Coast Guard operations, aviation security and other measures will now pay for 6,800 beds for detained migrants, according to the news outlet.

DHS has confirmed the transfer of funds and have stated that the transfer will begin immediately.
