Gun rights
One of the most high-profile opinions of Barrett’s career to date was her dissenting opinion in Kanter v. Barr. The Wisconsin case upheld a law that prohibits non-violent felons from possessing guns. “History is consistent with common sense: it demonstrates that legislatures have the power to prohibit dangerous people from possessing guns,” Barrett wrote. “But that power extends only to people who are dangerous.” Many commended Barrett’s dissent saying that preserving rights for felons, especially non-violent ones is something that both sides should support.
