CNN’s newest weekend anchor will be a familiar face. CNN’s very own Jim Acosta announced he is leaving the White House for a new job as the outlets weekend news anchor and chief domestic correspondent. Acosta rose to fame for his aggressive and bullish persona in the White House press room often sparring with the Press Secretary. It was not at all uncommon to see the journalist ask leading questions and make pointed remarks aimed at the Trump administration.

“On to the next adventure! After eight years at WH, I’m moving into a new role as anchor on weekends and chief domestic correspondent for @CNN, a new challenge I’m very excited about. Will miss my WH colleagues. But I know they’ll be great covering the Biden admin. See you soon!” Acosta wrote on Twitter.

The Hill reports:

His sometimes combative exchanges with President Trump and several White House press secretaries made Acosta a target for the president and his allies who regularly attacked journalists as “the enemy of the people.”

Following a testy exchange between Acosta and Trump in late 2018, during which the president called Acosta “a rude, terrible person,” the White House revoked the reporter’s press credentials without giving a reason for doing so.

The White House eventually restored Acosta’s press pass after CNN threatened to sue over the dispute.

Acosta’s shift away from the White House comes after the reporter revealed he did not plan to cover the Biden administration with the same aggression as the Trump administration. [Keep reading: CNN’s Jim Acosta Plants to Go Easy on Biden, Wants ‘Hazard Pay’ for Trump Admin Coverage]
