Tomorrow’s inauguration will look different than those in the past but it’s not just the virtual ceremony and thousands of national guardsmen that will paint a different picture. The guest list is also quite different from past Inauguration Day ceremonies. President Trump is not attending the ceremony, making him the first incumbent president to skip the ceremony since Andrew Johnson. Typically, the incoming and outgoing presidents ride to the U.S. Capitol together to symbolize the peaceful transition into the next administration but that will not be happening this year. However, Trump has promised a peaceful transition. Both Covid-19 and recent events in the Capitol have played a large part in changing the layout of the ceremony.
