There are provisions in the United States Constitution for the expulsion of members of Congress, but historically this has always been done because the Congressman in question has committed a very serious crime. In fact, 3 of the 5 Representatives to be kicked out in the history of this country were expelled because they renounced their US citizenship to become citizens of the Confederate States of America.
Marjorie Taylor Greene has not betrayed her country, neither has she been caught in a bribery scandal like Michael Myers, nor is she a mafioso-wannabe like James Traficant. She just has some opinions that people in Washington consider unacceptable.
Fortunately, the American Republic was structured in such a way that even the most off-the-wall ideas can at least be heard, and if the people elect a representative in a free and open election, it doesn’t matter how absurd, delusional, or deranged they are. There’s a member of Biden’s cabinet who thinks he’s a woman. The people didn’t choose him. They did choose Marjorie Taylor Greene.
That’s why the aftermath of a successful expulsion should scare most Americans. If you elect someone whom you trust to represent your concerns, and the elites in Washington (and the UN, and the EU, and Beijing) decide they don’t like your opinions or concerns, they can just say “nope, forget it, pick someone who represents us better.”
When the Soviet Union, the “workers’ paradise”, violently destroyed an “insurgency” of disgruntled workers in 1953, playwright Berthold Brecht bitterly joked “The government has lost the confidence of the people, so it must elect a new people.” This is what Washington is doing by trying to expel Marjorie Taylor Greene, and it won’t stop with her. It won’t stop with a new Congress. It won’t stop until they have entirely new people.
