Top Democrats say that the US-Mexico border never has been better…and yet, “DonaldTrump” is to blame for everything going wrong there.
“We’re on a good path at the border, under the leadership of President Biden,” said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D – California). “We were in a very bad situation under the Trump Administration.”
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas reassured Americans in March: “The border is closed.”
Wow! Mission accomplished!
But wait. Even though Myorkas claims that the border is welded shut, something is amiss.
“We are rebuilding the orderly systems that the Trump administration tore down,” Myorkas said.
Regarding the border, Vice President Kamala Harris said: “I mean, again, we were presented, when we came in, with some serious challenges.” According to White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, the “last administration left us with a dismantled and unworkable system.”
To fault Donald J. Trump for Biden’s border chaos is like Mayor Bill de Blasio (D – New York) saying that Gotham’s 40 percent spike in shootings in 2020 and 13 percent hike in homicides, for first quarter 2021 versus 1Q 2020, are the handiwork of that world-famous criminal coddler, Republican former mayor Rudy Giuliani.
The Democrat “blame Trump” narrative on the border is equally absurd. In fact, Trump had the border under control last year. In just weeks, Biden made a dog’s brunch of this inheritance and has devolved the border into a humanitarian, public health, and national security catastrophe.
The data confirm this fact.
First, remember that criminals on the border include each and every illegal alien who invades America without permission. Whether they are MS-13 killers or cute kids seeking their abuelas in San Antonio and Santa Monica, illegal aliens undermine U.S. sovereignty and lampoon millions of legal immigrants who arrive with passports and U.S. visas.
Many illegals also drive up costs for America’s increasingly exhausted taxpayers. Biden is blowing $86.9 million in federal funds to lodge illegals in 1,239 hotel beds for six months. That equals $385 per night. (What a country: Break in and then stay at the Hampton Inns and Comfort Suites — for free! Can I get the same deal in Cancun?)
Not to be outdone, New York State is poised to give $15,600 to illegal aliens who lost work in 2020. Total cost: $2.1 billion. How long before taxpayers break out the pitchforks and torches?
Foreigners who breach the border without passports violate 8 U.S. Code § 1325(a) — Improper entry by alien. Border Patrol encounters with such illegals were flat to falling under Trump. They went from 36,585 in January 2020 to 36,687 that February — up 0.3 percent. In March 2020, that number was 34,460 — down 6 percent.
These stable-to-decreasing numbers of encounters under Trump annihilate Biden’s lie that increases in apprehensions are as predictable as Washington, D.C.’s cherry blossoms. “It happens every year,” Biden told journalists on March 25.
Even if one buys Biden’s garbage, the changing seasons cannot explain today’s staggering leap in Border Patrol confrontations with illegals. These rose from 78,444 in January 2021 to 106,028 last February — up 29 percent. Last month, that figure was 172,331 — up 71 percent in March alone.
Comparing Border Patrol run-ins with illegals in 2020 versus 2021 starkly confirms Trump as savior of the southern border and indicts Biden as its sworn enemy.
Illegal-alien encounters in January 2020 stood at 36,585. January 2021’s statistic was 78,444 — up 114 percent.
The datum for February 2020 was 36,687. Last February’s number was 101,028 — up 175 percent.
The analogous figures for March 2020 were 34,460 and 172,331 for March 2021 — up 400 percent.
In the graph just above, Trump’s taming of the once-intractable southern frontier is represented by the orange curve. This is what 450 miles of border wall, the Stay-in-Mexico policy, and anti-caravan pacts with El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras bought America. There is a word for this: Leadership.
Meanwhile, Biden’s mind-blowing loss of control over the US-Mexico border is represented by the blue line, which curves up like the business end of a hockey stick. To paraphrase Dr. Freud, sometimes a hockey stick is just a hockey stick.
There are two explanations for the utter bedlam that Biden has unleashed on the border: Either he is an Olympic-class incompetent who hasn’t the foggiest idea of what he is doing. Or, conversely, Biden knows precisely what he is doing: Welcoming the Future Democrats of America to march across the frontier and await their turn to vote for the party that pried the front door off the hinges and yelled, “Soup’s on!”
To summarize evil Democrats, who speak from all sides of their mouths on this issue: “We’re on a good path at the border, and it’s all Trump’s fault.”
