Many Americans believe that most politicians should do their job and retire at some point, the idea of being a career politician is repugnant for most Americans and apparently Terry McAuliffe agreed with most of America at one point.

Terry McAuliffe was an extremely successful businessman before entering the political area. In 1999 McAuliffe told the New York Time that he had met all of his business contacts through politics. McAuliffe was an ally to former President Bill Clinton and he helped him raise over $275 million.

In 2009 Terry McAuliffe said that he was in favor of term limits and not a major fan of career politicians. These comments were made prior to him becoming governor and then trying to get a second term.
