Facebook Permanently Locks Account of Conservative Children’s Book Publisher

Facebook has permanently locked the ad account for conservative children’s book publisher, Heroes of Liberty.

Background: Heroes of Liberty opened its business on Nov. 9 and then officially launched on Nov. 14. According to Fox Business, the publisher began investing in Facebook months prior.

What Happened: On Dec. 23, Facebook permanently disabled the ads account for Heroes of Liberty claiming the publisher violated the company’s rules against “Low Quality or Disruptive Content.”

The move effectively cripples the new business that spent a majority of its marketing budget on Facebooks ads according to Bethany Mandel, a board member for Heroes of Liberty.

“We began investing in Facebook four months before we launched our first book,” she added. “We invested most of our marketing budget on the platform, and now our budget (the money we’ve already spent), as well as our assets and data are gone. Marketing-wise we are back in square one, financially it’s even more challenging.” (per Fox Business)

The publisher appealed Facebook’s ruling and later the company was informed their ads account had been permanently locked.

Context: Big Tech has come under increased scrutiny over its treatment of conservatives versus more liberal users especially after Twitter and Facebook disabled former President Trump’s account.

What Happens Next: “We learned our lesson, and won’t risk building our business relying on the whims of Big Tech again,” she added. “We are very happy with our initial decision to create a subscription model that will allow us to create a more meaningful one-on-one connection with families that can’t be disrupted by a censor.”
