New York Attorney General Letitia James has asked a federal judge to dismiss a lawsuit from former president Trump trying to block her investigation into potential fraud in his company.

The Washington Examiner reports:

“This lawsuit is nothing but a baseless and meritless collateral attack by Donald Trump to stop our legal and legitimate investigation into his and the Trump Organization’s financial dealings,” James said in a statement to the Washington Examiner. “In the three years that we have been conducting this investigation, the Trump Organization and its principles have never challenged the legality of the investigation, until now, when Mr. Trump himself was subpoenaed to testify.”

James issued a subpoena for the former president, Ivanka Trump, and Donald Trump Jr. earlier this month, according to a court filing. Her civil investigation, which dates back to 2019, has produced more than 90,000 documents and “has brought in more than a dozen employees for testimony,” according to her statement.

Trump filed the lawsuit Dec. 20 to stop James from investigating his businesses, arguing that his rights had been violated, and sought to block her from cooperating with a criminal inquiry, led by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, into his business empire.

Trump claimed he is the victim of “viewpoint discrimination.”
