Warner Bros. Discovery CEO, the company which owns CNN, David Zaslav wants the network to return to direct journalism.
The Washington Examiner reports:
“Journalism first. America needs a news network where everybody can come and be heard; Republicans, Democrats,” Zaslav said.
“I think you’re seeing more of that at CNN. We’re not going to look at the ratings, and, in the long run, it’s going to be worth more.”
Zaslav says that incoming CNN CEO Chris Licht signals a key turning point for the network. Licht has already directed CNN to stop using its “breaking news” banner for every story and to move away from opinion-based reporting.
However, Zaslav says that it will take time for ratings to rebound for the “new” CNN.
“The problem is we are not a neutral country,” according to the source cited as “well-placed” in the report. “The ratings are getting worse because they are taking out all the bells and whistles. CNN’s ratings are as bad as local news ratings.”
“New management is not freaking out, but everyone else at CNN is. They want to fix the shows first, but they don’t realize the shows and ratings are connected.”
