Investment in Fairy Tales
One of Newsom’s greatest boasts is his new focus on commercial grade solar and wind farms. Yes, with a power grid that already suffers energy droughts, he’s going all in.
You might ask, “what’s wrong with solar and wind?” Renewable energy is a great idea in theory. In fact, it would be quite nice to have a power grid that works entirely off of renewable energy, there’s only one problem: it can’t. At least not with solar and wind.
Solar and wind only produce energy around 25% of the time. That means that an entire city or grid dependent on those sources would be dependent on battery power for 75% of the time. Americans would have to ration energy and blackouts would quite literally come with the seasons. Try keeping the lights on when a shaky and unreliable energy grid tries to support millions of electric cars along with everything else.
Gavin Newsom’s brave future looks pretty dark indeed.
