White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre faced off against Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy during a press briefing on Tuesday, as Doocy sought clarification regarding a statement Jean-Pierre made earlier this week. Jean-Pierre claimed on Monday that “the actions that this president has taken” have led to a 90% decrease in illegal immigration, a statement that Doocy sought to clarify.

“When it comes to illegal migration, you have seen it come down by more than 90%.”

Jean-Pierre’s claims, which included overly optimistic statistics, were entirely false. In reality, the number of migrant border crossings during the fiscal year 2022 exceeded 2.76 million, setting a new record and exposing a significant problem with our southern border. These numbers indicate that our border may be more vulnerable than ever before under the Biden administration.

Peter Doocy: “You said yesterday that when it comes to illegal migration, you’ve seen it come down by more than 90%. Where did that number come from?”

As Doocy tried to complete his question, Jean-Pierre interrupted and he informed her that federal immigration officials had suggested that there had been “136,000 more people this fiscal year so far.”

Jean-Pierre: “If the dramatics could come down just a little bit… I was speaking to the parolee program, as you know, the president put in place a parolee program to deal with, to deal with certain countries on ways that we can limit illegal migration and we have seen the data has shown us that is gone down by more than 90%. That was what I was speaking to.”

Jean-Pierre: “I’m about to answer you if the dramatics could come down just a little bit…Okay, I’m going to answer, so I was speaking to the parolee program…”

Doocy: “What’s dramatic about asking a question about…”

Jean-Pierre: “Okay, I’m going to answer, so I was speaking to the parolee program, as you know, the president put in place a parolee program to deal with, to deal with certain countries on ways that we can limit illegal migration and we have seen the data has shown us that is gone down by more than 90%,” she claimed. “That was what I was speaking to.”

Jean-Pierre: “No! I’m, we’re gonna go, we’re gonna move.”

Jean-Pierre: “Go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead,” she shouted as she called on another reporter.
