Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) plans to impeach President Joe Biden, citing the border crisis and an alleged bribery scheme.  Boebert asserts that Biden is incapable of fulfilling the duties of the presidency and emphasizes the need for committees to conduct hearings and investigations to provide more information to the American people. During an appearance on The Benny Johnson Show, Boebert stated:

“I have filed Articles of Impeachment now in this Congress just as I did in the last Congress, but I did it in a very special way. This time, I was sure to draft these so they can be brought up as a privileged resolution on the House floor at any time.”

The articles of impeachment primarily focus on Biden’s handling of the southern border, highlighting his alleged failure to defend the homeland and uphold the rule of law, saying:

“More than 5.3 million illegal aliens…have been caught crossing our southern border.”

Boebert also mentions ongoing investigations by the Oversight Committee into an alleged bribery scheme involving Biden and his son, Hunter Biden. She anticipates the acquisition of bank records and the issuance of subpoenas in the coming weeks, stating:

“We are still having investigations on the bribery that we are seeing with these FD-1023 documents. We are trying to get the audio tapes that are out there, the 17 audio tapes — two of which are alleged that it’s Joe Biden recorded on these calls.”

However, the future holds uncertain prospects for significant advancements in this matter. Presently, the Democrats hold the majority in the Senate, making it highly improbable for them to alter their stance unless the tapes in question are publicly disclosed. Despite people’s political leanings, there is little optimism for the release of these recordings due to concerns about the Biden administration’s influence over the FBI and DOJ. Government agencies may protect Biden from any consequences. However, Representative Boebert is urging FBI Director Christopher Wray to make the Biden FD-1023 available to the American public. She asserts:

“I am calling on FBI Director Christopher Wray to release the Biden FD-1023 for every member of the American public to see or we will hold him in contempt of Congress.

That isn’t a threat. It’s a promise.”

The alleged existence of tapes implicating Biden in acts of bribery and coercion towards Ukrainian officials carries potential ramifications for the Senate, particularly among swing voters within the Democratic Party, such as Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kysten Sinema of Arizona, who identifies as an independent. Should House Republicans successfully pass articles of impeachment to the Senate, the Senate will function as a High Court of Impeachment. The Senate will assess evidence, witness testimonies, and vote on the impeachment trial outcome. If strong evidence suggests Biden’s involvement in bribery and highlights his failures on the southern border, it could impact the upcoming election and shed light on the Biden administration’s challenges.
