In a recent appearance on Fox News with host Sean Hannity, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) called for an impeachment inquiry into the business dealings of the Biden family, alleging that they have reached an extent warranting scrutiny. These claims stem from President Biden’s past assurances during his election campaign, wherein he stated he never involved himself in his family’s business affairs and denied their receipt of money from China.

The House Speaker based his call for an impeachment inquiry on what he identifies as contradicting revelations. These include the testimonies of two IRS whistleblowers alleging intentional delays in investigating purported tax crimes by Hunter Biden. McCarthy also referred to findings from House committee investigations that disclosed significant amounts of foreign money funneled through Biden family shell companies.

While McCarthy sees these findings as grounds for impeachment, the White House spokesperson for oversight and investigations, Ian Sams, criticized this focus, instead advocating for attention to urgent matters such as inflation and job creation. The controversy continues to deepen with Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and James Comer (R-KY) releasing an FBI form that alleges corruption related to Hunter Biden’s dealings with a Ukrainian energy company, and Devon Archer, a former business associate, planning to testify about then-Vice President Biden’s participation in particular business meetings.
