A Surprising Twist in the 2024 GOP Race as New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu’s Strategic Maneuvers Raise Concerns About His Allegiances and Intentions.
Sununu’s Attempt to Manipulate 2024 GOP Field
New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu has recently disclosed a strategy to meddle in the 2024 Republican primary by trying to narrow the field to challenge former President Donald Trump.
In a New York Times op-ed, Sununu wrote:
“As governor of the first-in-the-nation primary state, I will do everything I can to help narrow the field.”
Adding, “I plan to endorse and campaign for the best alternative to Mr. Trump. As of now, it’s anyone’s for the taking.”
This endeavor prompts questions regarding the integrity of party politics, as a Republican governor is overtly seeking to dismantle the 2024 front-runner, Donald Trump, and endorse other contenders, an act that seems to merely aid the Democrats in 2024.
Debate Focus: Attacking Trump
In his clear endorsement of targeting Trump in the forthcoming Wednesday debate, Sununu has urged candidates to focus on Trump, who has announced he will not even be in attendance.
However, from the perspective of the voters, it would likely be more beneficial to acknowledge Trump as the 2024 front-runner and collaborate against the Democratic party and the Biden-led DOJ, who are actively striving to incarcerate the former President, Donald Trump.
Sununu seems to be opting to assist the Democrats and appears indifferent regarding Trump being imprisoned – a stance that would likely shock most GOP voters and that they would be dismayed to hear Sununu express.
Significance of New Hampshire Primaries, and Tearing Down Trump
Though Sununu stresses the significance of the New Hampshire primaries in determining GOP nominations, his very conduct of openly endorsing particular candidates while disparaging others diminishes the state’s prestige. For over twenty years, the victor in New Hampshire has frequently clinched the GOP nomination.
Sununu would go on to write:
“This week, Republican primary candidates for president will have a chance to make their case before a national audience — with or without Donald Trump on the debate stage.”
Adding, “To win, they must break free of Mr. Trump’s drama, step out of his shadow, go on offense, attack, and present their case. Then they need to see if they can catch fire this fall — and if they can’t, they need to step aside, because winnowing down the field of candidates is the single best chance to stop Mr. Trump.”
At present, Sununu’s efforts seem to be faltering, as Trump holds a substantial lead of approximately 30 points in the New Hampshire Republican Presidential Primary.
Is Sununu Really So Clean?
While Sununu criticizes Donald Trump’s campaign as nothing more than a self-preserving effort, he seems to forget that his father, John H. Sununu, was not only the governor of New Hampshire from 1983 to 1989 but also served as the Chief of Staff under President George H. W. Bush. This is a detail he opts to ignore when attacking Trump, as Chris Sununu appears to be part of the very political establishment “swamp” that Donald Trump seeks to cut down at the knees.
While Sununu tries to depict Trump as an egotist and self-absorbed, voters appear more sympathetic to Trump’s purported imperfections than they are to Sununu’s status as a political insider and a darling of the RINOs (Republicans In Name Only), who are working to prevent Trump from achieving the Presidency in 2024.
Simply, the case can easily be made that Chris Sununu, despite bearing the Republican label, is effectively aligning himself with the Democrats.
