The Muslim mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has been feuding with President Trump on Twitter—even calling for Trump’s upcoming state visit to the United Kingdom to be cancelled.
But Queen Elizabeth II had a very different idea.
In a particularly humiliating moment for the mayor, the Queen ignored Khan’s calls to cancel Trump’s visit—and, instead, went out of her way to extend a personal invitation for Donald Trump to visit the United Kingdom.
Trump has accepted, and “appreciates Her Majesty’s gracious invitation,” said Sean Spicer, Trump’s press secretary.
Trump and Khan’s feud started after Khan announced that there was “no reason to be alarmed” after Saturday’s brutal terrorist attack on iconic London Bridge.
Trump took to Twitter to express his shock at what he saw as Khan making light of a terror attack: “At least 7 dead and 48 wounded in terror attack and Mayor of London says there is ‘no reason to be alarmed!’”
Khan quickly reversed course, and said he was talking about the increased police presence—which Trump later referred to as a “pathetic excuse.”
