More than 70% of Americans taking a CNN poll think that the “obstruction of justice” investigation into President Donald Trump is a witch hunt.
CNN’s poll, which was taken by more than 2.7 million people online, found that 70.2% of respondents responded, “No,” to the simple question: “Should Trump be investigated for obstruction of justice?”
It’s worth noting that the CNN poll is open to everyone and thus not a scientifically weighted poll—but the poll nevertheless indicates thatTrump can count on a loyal base to defend him, despite his setbacks.
It’s not clear whether Trump is actually under investigation for obstruction of justice, stemming from accusations that he told former FBI Direct James Comey to stop the investigation into former National Security Advisor Mike Flynn.
Several weeks ago, leaks from special prosecutor Bob Mueller’s team claimed that, in light of Comey’s accusations, Trump is now under investigation for obstruction of justice. Trump seemed to confirm that fact himself via Twitter—but last week, Trump’s lawyer claimed there was no such investigation.
