The Trump administration ended a five-year review and approved a proposed pipeline expansion to carry oil sand across the Canadian border.

Oil sand is the mixture of earth, clay, sand, water, chemicals, and oil pumped out of oil wells. It is transported to plants that separate the oil from the rest.

The pipeline, Enbridge Energy’s Line 67, plays a role similar as the Keystone XL pipeline and carries more oil sand than Keystone’s 830,000 barrels a day — about 890,000 barrels a day, according to The Hill.

Enbridge upgraded its pumping stations in 2014 and 2015, effectively doubling the amount of oil sand the company is able to move, according to the Associated Press.
