New documents reveal that former FBI Director James Comey deliberately changed the wording in his statement on Hillary Clinton’s then-burgeoning email scandal to avoid saying she was grossly negligent.
In July 2016, Comey famously delivered a statement about Hillary Clinton’s email server and the fact that she had sent and received classified documents.
The statement initially read: “Here is evidence to support a conclusion that Secretary Clinton, and others, used the private email server in a manner that was grossly negligent with respect to the handling of classified material.”
But, when Comey read the statement publically, he called her conduct extremely careless.
