President Donald Trump said on Monday that his administration will take up welfare reform after tax reform is passed.
Speaking to the media during a Cabinet meeting at the White House, Trump said that he hopes the Senate will move quickly on tax reform now that the House of Representatives has passed its version of a tax bill. Trump said that one of his next legislative priorities will be welfare reform, in addition to health care and infrastructure.
Trump said that his administration is looking for ways to “reduce wasteful government spending” to “find taxpayer savings in each and every department.”
“We’ll be working on health care, infrastructure, and welfare reform,” Trump said. “We’re looking very strongly at welfare reform, and that will all take place after taxes. Very soon, very shortly after taxes.”
