President Trump told reporters on Monday that he’s encouraging longtime Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) to run for reelection in 2018.

While traveling in Utah, pool reporters asked if Trump was urging Hatch to run next year, as the Utah Republican considers retiring from the Senate.

Trump gave a one-word reply: “Yes.”

Reports have surfaced that Trump wants to prevent 2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney from potentially mounting a Senate bid for Hatch’s seat if the 83-year-old Hatch retires.
