White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders criticized Democrats on Tuesday for refusing to participate in the GOP’s effort to reform the tax code, saying in a new interview that President Trump would have “welcomed” Democratic input on the tax bill.
Speaking on “Fox and Friends,” the White House press secretary accused Democrats of waiting until Republicans “begged” until engaging with the majority party on tax reform.
“Look this is a president who has said many times before he’s willing to work with Democrats, he wants to work with Democrats, he’s invited them to come to the White House on several occasions,” Sanders said Tuesday.
“This is a president who would’ve been happy to take their call and certainly happy to have their vote, to help Americans have more money in their paychecks, more money in their pockets, more money for businesses to reinvest in this country,” Sanders continued. “That’s something that Democrats shouldn’t need to be begged to be a part of. They should’ve been begging and banging down the door of the building behind me to be part of this process and to be part of helping more Americans be more successful.”
