Liberal media outlet outed as the Huffington Post faces a $23.5 million lawsuit for libel, and is closing shop on its contributor network that churned out fake news since 2005. According to Fox News, “HuffPost contributors were invited to the platform in a variety of ways over the years. Once a contributor had an account, they would self-publish to the platform without editorial review.” Once there, the contributors could publish at will, without any regard for journalistic standards or integrity.
The impetus for the lawsuit against Huffington Post was a contributor alleging a former political reporter for The Young Turks web newscast was accused of sexual harassment and assault. The accusation was allegedly made prematurely, and the contributor ran with the story, leading to the termination of the political reporter from the Young Turks organization. Huffington Post lawyers did not return the New York Post’s request for comment on the suit.
The Huffington Post has played fast and loose with the facts for some time, and the real story is that it took 13 years of publication before a lawsuit brought it down. Not to worry, the rest of Huffington Post continues to publish, though they live on as a poster child for fake news. The President calls for reform of libel laws for a reason: because not all news is fit to print, yet the Huffington Posts of the world continue.
