President Trump lit up Democrats on Twitter for putting politics before the military on Thursday. “A government shutdown will be devastating to our military…something the Dems care very little about! ” Democrats are holding out for the DACA program, and are generally withholding support of funding the government until it comes through. House Republicans are willing to trade DACA for funding of the border Wall, but Democrats are resisting that approach, according to the Hill.

Speaker Paul Ryan is enticing votes from the Democrats with funding for the CHIP Program, a healthcare insurance program for sick children. It isn’t clear whether that will attract the votes he needs. Ryan is also offering to put off unpopular Obamacare taxes such as the medical device tax and the “Cadillac” tax on high-end insurance plans, which also appeals to Democrats who have paid dearly for the law already. 
 
Meanwhile, our military, while Democrats in Congress hold out on funding the border wall, will be forced to do their duty without pay, as even the liberal Politifact conceded. The pattern from the stories above shows that President Trump and Republicans are willing to give and take to govern, funding the military and deliver on promises. Democrats need to stop them from delivering and don’t care if military families can pay bills while they do it.
