Man Arrested Near White House With Loaded Gun

WASHINGTON (ABC7) — A man was arrested about a block from the White House early Tuesday morning with a loaded gun inside a vehicle, the Secret Service said. 

The incident was first reported as a suspicious vehicle around 2:30 a.m. in the area of 15th St. and New York Ave., NW, according to authorities.

The Secret Service sent ABC7 the following statement late Tuesday morning following the incident:

“On January 23, 2018, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Secret Service Uniformed Division officers were alerted to a suspicious vehicle in the vicinity of the White House complex. During their investigation Officers discovered the operator of the vehicle was in possession of a loaded firearm. Explosive ordnance disposal personnel from the Metropolitan Police Department were called to the scene to assist and declared the previously occupied vehicle safe. The operator of the vehicle was arrested and charged with Carrying a Pistol Without a License, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, and Possession of Unregistered Ammunition. This subject was transported to MPD for processing. H Street between 15th and 17th Streets was temporarily closed to all traffic but is now reopened.”
