Last night the New York Times broke a story claiming President Trump ordered Special Counsel Robert Mueller be fired in June 2016. The report also alleges White House Counsel Donald McGahn threatened to quit unless the order was pulled back.
Friday morning President Trump shot down the report, calling it “fake news.”
“Fake news folks, fake news. Typical New York Times fake stories,” Trump said in Davos, Switzerland at the World Economic Forum.
According to reporting from Fox News’ John Roberts, Trump did ask about the option of firing Mueller and whether he had to authority to do so, but did not order it be done. McGahn denies threatening to quit over the conversation.
