President Trump is the negotiator in chief and is willing to show grace to some in order to restore the rule of law on the border. The media is in full spin mode, trying to cast the President’s immigration proposal as a “sharp turn” on immigration. But it isn’t.
Remember, President Trump said in the campaign that “Everywhere I go I get the same reaction. They want toughness. They want firmness. They want to obey the law,” Trump said. “But they feel that throwing them out as a whole family when they’ve been here for a long time, it’s a tough thing.”
The President knew then as now that there’s a strong appetite for justice, but not for deporting people who didn’t actively break our laws, so he’s willing to give those people a tough process to become Americans. Estimates on DACA range from 690,000 to 3.6 million people were brought here illegally by their parents. Remember, there are about 12-20 million illegals in America.
The President will let them stay if they have jobs, get an education and don’t commit crimes. In exchange, he says Congress must verify new hires are citizens, end “catch and release”, hire the security people necessary to help legal immigration, remove any new illegals and most importantly, build the wall.
That’s a deal most Americans would take. Let’s see if Congress does.
