In the wake of years of limited engagement in the mission to “degrade and ultimately destroy” ISIS, Barack Obama left office without achieving the objective. President Trump is making good on campaign promises to “bomb the ****” out of ISIS. Centcom Commander Joseph Votel was quoted as saying, “The timeline for the military defeat of ISIS can now be measured in weeks.”

The news comes as Obama era restrictions on the rules of engagement have been lifted, giving American soldiers a free hand to fight ISIS. “The rules of engagement under the Obama administration were onerous. I mean what are we doing having individual target determination being conducted in the White House, which in some cases adds weeks and weeks,” retired Air Force Lt. Gen. David Deptula, the former head of U.S. Air Force intelligence, told Fox News.
While there are still significant pockets of resistance to overcome, and Syria is still a tinderbox, this marks a shift from the stalemate that marred the last year of the Obama administration. President Trump is making good on his promise to bring ISIS down, and get closer to the day when America can withdraw from Iraq. The group has lost 98%% of the land it once held, according to Fox News.
