You thought Nancy Pelosi’s “crumbs” comment was bad? Apparently, the media didn’t; they were too busy making hay out of Paul Ryan’s tweet about a public school employee getting an extra buck and a half a week. According to the Media Research Center, “In just a 24-hour period (February 4 through February 5) CNN (10 minutes, 52 seconds) and MSNBC (10 minutes, 11 seconds) filled their programs with a total of 21 minutes, 3 seconds of coverage of Ryan’s tweet or 74 times more coverage than they devoted in a week’s time of Pelosi’s “crumbs” insult.” CNN and MSNBC devoted all of seventeen seconds to Pelosi’s callous remark.
For Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), this all started when he tweeted from an Associated Press article, where they grudging acknowledged that they found someone who was getting $1.50 a week in tax relief; the AP cherry-picked an example of someone getting a minute amount, when families are getting hundreds and thousands, depending on their situation. The Speaker, all to happy to tweet any good news from the media, tweeted from the AP story. The story was made to order, as the media had an opportunity to reinforce the “crumbs” narrative set forth by Minority Leader Pelosi, (D-Calif.),
For Pelosi, she can mock a thousand dollar bonus given to a Walmart employee as “crumbs”, a paltry amount given her millions, Ryan repeats a line from an AP story, and suddenly he’s out of touch. The fake news media is all too happy to spend time attacking Republicans for stupid stuff, instead of reporting real news.
