Trump Hammers ‘Amnesty For All’ Bill

In case you missed it, there are four immigration plans pending before the Senate. The first one put forth by Sen. Grassley (R-Iowa), which is the one President Trump supports, that includes wall funding, and meets the “four pillars” requirements. The second is from Sen. Toomey (R-Pa.) that compels states and localities to comply with federal law, targeting sanctuary cities. The third is from Sen. McCain (R-Ariz.) that would fund border security and do DACA amnesty, but not fund the wall. The fourth is sponsored by Sen. Schumer (D-N.Y.), Sen. Collins (R-Maine) and Sen. Rounds( D-S.D.) to offer amnesty to millions, with no wall; that fourth one claims 22 supporters, but the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the White House ain’t having it.

DHS issued the most impressive release this writer has ever seen, attacking the Schumer-Rounds-Collins amendment as the “end of immigration enforcement in America,” saying it would create a “sanctuary nation”. White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders delivered a veto threat from President Trump saying, “But this Amendment would only compound the problem by encouraging millions of additional minors to be smuggled into the United States.  We need to solve the problem, not perpetuate it indefinitely.”

Sen. Graham (R-S.C.) responded to Fox that the DHS release was “poisonous” and “over the top”. In the sharply divided 51-49 Senate, it’s likely that none of the proposals will get the 60 votes needed to advance. Yet, President Trump is still holding the line and has threatened to veto both McCain and Schumer’s amendment.

The following Senators support the Schumer-Rounds-Collins Amendment: Senators Schumer (D-N.Y.), Collins (R-Maine),  Rounds( D-S.D.), Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Tim Kaine (D-Va.), Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), Chris Coons (D-Del.), Cory Gardner (R-Colo.), Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.), and Mark Warner (D-Va.).
