In case you missed it, President Trump spoke on Friday at the Conservative Political Action Conference in National Harbor, Md. Before he could get rolling, a protester started making loud noises, only to be drowned out by chants of “USA, USA” by a conservative crowd that wasn’t having it. The President warned the gathering of activists that they shouldn’t be “complacent” because Democrats were coming to take back the tax cuts and “take away your Second Amendment.”. “We can’t let that happen,” the President said.
The President also offered something of a middle ground on guns, saying he was for strengthening background checks so that the government can prevent “people who are mentally ill to have any form of weaponry. We have to be strong,” the President said. With that, the President said that he was for arming teachers with concealed carry permits; “It’s time to make our schools a much harder target for attackers,” he said, adding that making schools “gun-free zones” puts kids in “far more danger.”
The President shifted to border security, saying: “Don’t worry, you’re getting the wall,” stirring chants of “build the wall!”. The President also mentioned that the “era of economic surrender is over” and that “our economy is blazing. Jobs are at a record level. Jobs are so good. 2.7 [million] jobs created since the election. Unemployment claims have reached a 45-year low.” Concluding his address, the President told CPAC, “I love you and respect you and I appreciate everything you’ve done for the country,” walking away to deafening applause.
