Both candidates in Pennsylvania’s 18th District garnered 113,000 votes, and are separated by two tenths of a percent, with Democrat Conor Lamb currently leading Republican Rick Saccone. Lamb leads by 627 votes.
Pennsylvania doesn’t have a law that mandates a recount in these circumstances, but such a small margin of victory has the Saccone campaign gearing up for one. Politico says the campaign has not yet decided whether to file in state or federal court. Provisional and military ballots have not been tallied.
Politico reports that a Republican source said, “GOP attorneys were allegedly not allowed to witness the tabulation of absentee ballots; changes to the secretary of state’s website caused confusion for voters about their polling locations; and there were internal reports of voters miscasting their ballots when they used touchscreen machines in Allegheny County, which Lamb carried by a 15-point margin.”
Democrat Conor Lamb is prematurely declaring victory, but it looks like the race isn’t over yet. Rick Saccone has not conceded, and plans to fight.
