President Trump undercut the Republican challenger running against Sen. Dean Heller (R-Nev.) on Friday by calling on him to abandon his Senate bid and run for House instead.

Danny Tarkanian, a perennial candidate who is the grandson of Nevada basketball legend Jerry Tarkanian, has sought to challenge Heller from the right. But he announced Friday that he would follow the president’s wishes and run for House in the 3rd congressional district. 
 
In the tweet, Trump praised Heller and called on Tarkanian to step aside. 

“It would be great for the Republican Party of Nevada, and its unity if good guy Danny Tarkanian would run for Congress and Dean Heller, who is doing a really good job, could run for Senate unopposed!” he tweeted.
