President Trump was elected to stop the illegal immigration problem, as it was the signature issue of 2016. It’s too bad that Speaker Ryan, R-Wis. and Majority Leader McConnell, R-Ky. are too scared of rocking the boat with Minority Leaders Pelosi, D-Calif. and Schumer, D-N.Y. to care.
President Trump has spoken at length about stopping sanctuary cities’ massive resistance to federal law. Yet several days ago, it was reported that House GOP leadership was letting tens of billions of dollars in grant funding flow to them anyway, over the objections of House conservatives and the Trump administration.
On Tuesday, the president is hosting administration officials and immigration hawks from congress to tackle the issue. The president issued an executive order in 2017 suspending funding to sanctuary cities, but the order is currently hung up in federal courts that have blocked the order.
The Daily Caller reports that the funding bill may well be changed to reflect the president’s preferences, but it isn’t clear whether the changes are coming or not, What is clear is that House Republicans have quickly forgotten their mandate from 2016, and need the reminder.
