California is on the brink in more ways than one. The state has been mismanaged for years, is overrun with illegal immigrants and criminals, and some Californians are fed up with Los Angeles and San Francisco ruining their towns.
President Trump’s election prompted many Californians to sign a petition to separate from the union, and some activists within California have a similar idea: break up the nation’s third largest state into two (or more) states. The idea isn’t as crazy as it sounds.
In American history, three states have already did this: Maine was part of Massachusetts; Vermont was part of New York and most prominently, West Virginia was part of Virginia. In order to move forward with forming a new state, they would have to win the approval of the very state legislature that has ruined California; certainly a daunting task.
This would be a big deal, because suddenly Crazyfornia wouldn’t have 55 electoral votes to wield against President Trump, or any other Republican. Given that there are millions of voters that are ignored by California liberals, New California would be a welcome change for those voters, and a better way to solve problems than making them languish under permanent liberal control.
