President Trump tweeted against Amazon, saying “I have stated my concerns with Amazon long before the Election. Unlike others, they pay little or no taxes to state & local governments, use our Postal System as their Delivery Boy (causing tremendous loss to the U.S.), and are putting many thousands of retailers out of business!”
Amazon reacted by firing their DC lobbying team, including former Senator Trent Lott. Some are speculating that the president hammered Amazon in particular because Jeff Bezos owns the Washington Post, which exists to destroy the president and other Republicans.
Amazon has quadrupled their lobbying spending since President Trump took office, but it won’t matter: they aren’t paying federal taxes, and are keeping major opponents of the president alive. President Trump has the power to use anti-trust laws to put them out of business, and they are whistling past the graveyard if they think lobbyists will stop that.
