“You’re not going to find anybody more committed to aggressive campaign finance reform than me,” Hillary said in 2016. Yet, she used a shell game, described in the Supreme Court’s McCutcheon case, to funnel money to the campaign from the Democratic National Committee to state parties, as her campaign still controlled the funds. Some $84 million was processed through a “joint fundraising committee”, far above the legal limits. Any other candidate would be heavily fined or prosecuted, but Hillary remains unscathed by the scandal. Depending on what the Federal Election Commission does, that may change, but one thing is for sure: it’s not going anywhere.
