Speculation has been mounting on whether or not former FBI Agent Andrew McCabe will be charged for the abuses he committed while working for our nations top law enforcement agency. Things look to be heating up as prosecutors are closing in on those closest to him. The latest is an interview of his former boss, James Comey.

According to The Daily Caller:

Investigators have questioned former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe’s direct superior during his time at the bureau, as part of a probe into whether McCabe broke the law and misled federal agents, The Washington Post reported Thursday.

Investigators with the D.C.-U.S. Attorney’s Office spoke to former FBI director James Comey about allegations McCabe knowingly mislead federal agents, as well as Comey himself, over authorizing leaks to the media. If charged and found guilty, McCabe faces a five-year prison sentence for deceiving federal agents four times — including three times under oath.

Comey’s questioning is a reflection of the seriousness with which investigators are approaching the McCabe case, according to WaPo.

“A little more than a month ago, we confirmed that we had been advised that a criminal referral to the U.S. Attorney’s Office had been made regarding Mr. McCabe,” McCabe lawyer Michael R. Bromwich told WaPo in a statement. “We said at that time that we were confident that, unless there is inappropriate pressure from high levels of the Administration, the U.S. Attorney’s Office would conclude that it should decline to prosecute. Our view has not changed.”

McCabe has consistently denied his guilt. However, an Inspector General report, released earlier this year, contradicted those claims by slamming McCabe’s conduct and leading to his firing.
