President Trump is looking forward to his seventy-second birthday next week, and surprisingly, the Department of Justice (DOJ) plays a big part in that. Michael Horowitz, the Inspector General (IG) of the DOJ has notified the Senate that he will release a report on the conduct of disgraced Former FBI director James Comey. 

“That will, maybe, be a nice birthday present for me,” he told reporters Friday before leaving for the G-7 summit. The president’s birthday is on June 14th, the day the report should be released, according to the IG’s letter.

Early reports suggest that the IG will fault Comey for disregarding Obama’s attorney general by going public in July of 2016, claiming that Hillary Clinton had committed no crime after the FBI had not completed their investigation into her mishandling of classified materials. Other reports indicate that the IG report will be heavily redacted, as insiders within the Department of Justice do not want the president to use the report to justify his 2017 firing of James Comey. 

If the report lives up to the hype, it will confirm the president’s reasons were valid in firing Comey, who usually serve ten-year terms, but serve at the leisure of the president like any other appointee. The bottom line is that President Trump should be vindicated, as Comey’s actions were at best irregular, and at worst, an attempt to give Hillary Clinton a pass for crimes for which the rest of us would pay dearly.
