“The New York Times’ Maggie Haberman, CNN, and numerous outlets had long reported, as if fact, the Hillary Clinton claim that a total of 17 American intelligence agencies concluded that Russia orchestrated election-year attacks to help get Trump elected. Only three or four agencies, not 17, had officially done so.”
 
The “17 agencies” claim was supposed to lend legitimacy to the idea that Russia had tipped the scales in favor of President Trump in 2016. What it actually did was cement the “Deep State” narrative, that liberals in the government were out to undermine the president, through smears and half-truths, with apparent allegiance to the failed candidacy of Hillary Clinton. So much for legitimacy.
